Privilege 2020. white clay, 10.5in (L) 4in (W), 6in (H)

This is a white clay piece made in the wake of the pandemic last year as well as the uprising of bringing more awareness to the racial injustices that go on in this country. This piece physically signifies the idea of white privilege and the concept of having to make certain steps to get to where you want to go in life. Though, the idea of white privilege implies that certain people have more of a helping hand in taking those steps. The crack in the toe signifies the breakage in the system. Coincidentally cracking in the process of making the piece, it was a decision to keep it in there as well as exaggerate it to also signify the idea of the concept of white privilege being taken apart by today’s society.
