Gallery Conversion, Screen-based animation October 8, 2020 1280 x 780 px

The transition of galleries from physical spaces to online exhibitions has created a void in the art experience. As we watch galleries taking the necessary precautions relating to prevention, we are left with these new forms of gazing and exploring art through a screen. A space once occupied by few mediums, such as design and media, are now flooded with work produced with physical processes and erasing the gap between mediums. It raises the question of the importance of these digital spaces and can these physical spaces ever be replaced. However, as we look forward to the reopening of galleries and museums in the near future we hope that physical installation processes are not readily forgotten. This screen based animation explores the processes needed to create these two different art experiences and places them at odds. Which visual experience prevails and which tools will remain in use once this historic closure comes to an end, a question we await an answer to as we create for this new platform.
