Restorer Horror, Video Animation, 1280x720pixels, 10/8/2020

When presented with the theme of “Remaking Histories” I could not help but think of the times in which history had quite literally been remade, or restored. Restoration of art is a highly controversial topic and one that is often polarizing —should we allow nature to take its course and let the fabricated beauty of paintings, sculpture, and architecture crumble and die as we all eventually do? Or should we beat an exquisite corpse until no authenticity is left but sheer memory of what once was? What happens when a restoration does not go as planned —is it now ruined because it does not resemble the original, or would it not have been any better were it an exact replica? These are the questions I sought to explore and pose.
