Jalaluddin Rumi was a 13th-century Persian poet, Islamic scholar and Sufi mystic. Rumi is one of the best selling poets in the United States and his translated works are everywhere. Rumi was an Islamic scholar but his works translated by Coleman Barks are very far away from the essence of what Rumi was trying to convey. Very little trace of culture and religion exists in the translations that sell so well in the United States.
