Light Switch Off, Oil on Canvas, 2019, 48 x 36 in.
I usually don’t want viewers to consider my work to belong to a certain country or culture group. I would like viewers to feel my emotion as a human being that is similar to them. The lack of empathy has been causing human beings to go against each other simply by their race, gender, sexuality and etc. Human beings hold stereotypes consciously or subconsciously against those who are different. This is a series of three paintings called Skinned Rabbit. In these paintings, I want to express that what is ordinary can always change depends on the background people live in. Some people might not be familiar with the skinned rabbit, but some eat it on a daily basis. Some people are familiar with this kind of light switch, but some are not. As human beings, we need to consider how important empathy is through small habits in our lives.
